Music event puts Essen’s traditional cinema in a new light: “Candlelight Concerts” ensure a special atmosphere and hits from Queen to Coldplay
A new series of events will start in Essen’s Glückauf film studio in January: “Candlelight Concerts” is the name of the format that has now been tried and tested worldwide by the “Fever” event platform, in which musicians play well-known works from the classical and pop realms and thousands of concert venues be lit by candles.
Candlelight originally started as a classical music series with concerts by well-known composers such as Vivaldi, Mozart and Chopin. In the meantime, however, artists such as Queen, Abba, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran have also conquered the program list. In Essen, on January 17, at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., the songs of the British pop-rock giants Coldplay are on the program. The Prima string quartet interprets the big hits, such as “The Scientist”, “Adventure of a Lifetime” or “Clocks”.
The “Soundtracks by Hans Zimmer” is followed by a “Tribute to Queen”
And fans of the US rockers Imagine Dragons will also get their money’s worth. Hits like “Radioactive”, “Natural” and many more can be heard in the film studio, which is one of the oldest cinemas in the Ruhr area. Opened in 1924 and destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt in the style of the 1950s and lastly extensively restored in the 2000s and finally reopened in 2009.
Further “Candlelight Concerts” on January 18 deal with the “Soundtracks by Hans Zimmer” in the Glückauf film studio. A week later, on January 25th, there is a “Tribute to Queen”.
Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons & More’ will be served on January 23 (sold out) and January 30 at the GOP Varieté Theater on Rottstrasse. There is also the possibility to book a 3-course candlelight meal in the theater restaurant before the concert at 5.30 p.m.
