Through an Information Card, the Metro guaranteed that the elements of the National Guard will not be armed and that their work will contribute to the reinforcement of the security actions carried out by the Banking and Industrial Police and Auxiliary Police of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of CDMX.
From 12:01 a.m., a group from the GN was reported boarding one of the trains of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC-Metro).

Originally, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaumhad reported that the deployment would begin at 2:00 p.m.
However, citizens sighted the members of the GN from 12:00 noon.
This Thursday, Sheinbaum reported during the morning that as of January 12, the GN will be in charge of Metro security, as a result of recent incidents that occurred on different lines of the public transport system.
The president maintained that the measure will be established by “security and before the concern of the citizenry”.
The announcement was criticized by various civil society organizations, who pointed out that the Metro requires a budget and maintenance and not elements of the National Guard.

This was due to the accident recorded over the weekend on Line 3, which left a student dead and more than a hundred injured.
Previously, the National Guard and the Armed Forces have been assigned to tasks that were not previously within their regular functions.such as the construction of the “Felipe Ángeles” International Airport and the Mayan Train, customs and port control, immigration control, the implementation of social programs and even the administration of public works projects.
This Thursday, Human Rights Watch published a report in which it assured that, since 2018, the number of complaints filed with the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) against the Army and the GN has registered a constant increase.
In 2021, the Commission received 940 such complaints, the highest number in eight years.
