Former NBA star arrested for gun and drug possession

NEW YORK.- Point guard Rajon Rondo, four times invited to the Stars game from NBAconfirmed this Tuesday that he ended a 16-year career in which he won two championship rings with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.

Rondo, 38, was without a team since the 2021-2022 season ended in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform.

“I’m done. I can’t (…) I’d rather spend time with my kids,” Rondo said on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast about the possibility of returning to the slopes.

A player of strong character and excellent vision of the game, Rondo was selected in the 2006 Draft with number 21.

Two years later he was a key piece of the Celtics’ 17th title, the last so far for the emblematic franchise, as a luxury complement to the stellar trio formed by Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

Twelve years later he played a less decisive role in the last ring won by the Lakers, the other most successful franchise in the NBA.

On that occasion Rondo contributed with a substitute role in the team led by LeBron James in the Orlando (Florida) playoffs, played behind closed doors due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The point guard led the league in assists for three seasons (between 2011 and 2013 and 2015-2016) and another in steals (2009-2010).

In total Rondo averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds in his 957 games in the NBA, in which he also had brief stints in the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers.

Several specialized basketball portals and some of the teams he played for published messages on their social networks in honor of Rondo during noon and afternoon this Tuesday.
