Free Netflix account sharing will end soon. The streaming service intends to set up a system of “additional members” with many rules. Here’s what we already know about this big change for platform subscribers.
Faced with a growing shortfall, Netflix has taken a major decision: to ban illegal account sharing, a habit taken by millions of subscribers. To solve the problem, the streaming giant will allow account sharing, but new rules will be imposed on these “ additional members “.

What are the rules for account sharing?
Netflix announces it itself on its site. Account sharing is only allowed to people who live together in the same household. External persons must subscribe themselves, for example to the paid formula with advertisements put forward by the service.
If you want to share your account, you will have to pay a certain price per “ additional member “. A rate that has not yet been communicated but, according to tests in Latin America, we are talking about 3 to 4 euros paid monthly by the original account owner. It is up to him to be reimbursed by the user of the sub-account.
Several rules have already been revealed, here are the ones to keep in mind:
- Additional members can watch Netflix from all devices but only with one device at a time
- Additional members can download content for offline viewing but this use is limited one device at a time
- Additional members only have of a single profileimpossible to create another one

When will the ” additional members »?
It is from spring 2023 that this system of additional members will gradually begin. In a Frequently Asked Questions, Netflix explains that illegal account sharing will be spotted from the IP address or account activity. On the other hand, Netflix did not specify punishments which will be taken in the event of illegal sharing of an account, but we already know that if you are identified as a fraudster, it is the owner of the account who will be solicited.
- After a connection request, the account owner receives a link by email or phone
- The link sends to a page with a 4-digit code
- The code must be entered on the relevant device within 15 minutes
- Once the code is entered, the user can use the account
Note, however, that verification can be requested periodically through netflix to avoid abuse.
