Netflix has supported spatial audio on its platform since the summer of 2022. But while the technology was accessible with all formulas, it is now confined to the Premium offer at 17.99 euros per month. Bad news for other subscribers.

Last summer, Netflix began rolling out spatial audio to a handful of movies and series. This technology makes it possible to offer a more immersive experience thanks to the effects of spatialization, the sound seeming to come from several directions. Among the first compatible contents, we can mention in particular Stranger Things, The Witcher or the series resident Evil.

Until then, spatial audio was accessible with all subscription plans. A courtesy that did not last very long, however. This Wednesday, February 1, Netflix announced that spatial audio would be exclusively available by subscribing to the Premium offer. As a reminder, it costs 17.99 euros per month and gives access to four screens simultaneously. Subscribers also have the right to 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos… and therefore now also spatial audio.

How to get spatial audio on Netflix?

“Now with Netflix Spatial Audio, our Premium subscribers will enjoy the best sound experience available when watching at home on a TV or computer, or on the go on a phone or tablet,” welcomes the platform in its press release. If this does not change anything for existing premium subscribers, the others, now deprived of spatial audio, will inevitably look gray.

We can see where the red N is coming from: attracting as many subscribers as possible to its most expensive package. Spatial audio is now available on over 700 programs. A badge indicates whether it is supported. You can also type “spatial audio” in the search bar to quickly access all compatible programs. Shortly, You, You at my house and vice versa and Luther: Fallen Sun will also benefit from spatial audio.
