Series Thursday Widows and the documentary Ordinary Men: A Forgotten Chapter of the Final Solution were among the new features put online on Netflix last September 14, just like the Danish romance Ehrengarde or the Art of Seduction. Adapted from one of Karen Blixen’s latest novels (Out of Africa), the feature film features Cazotte, a self-proclaimed love expert, hired by the Grand Duchess to help her secure an heir. His mission ? Teach the shy prince the art of love and seduction and search for the ideal princess for him. But the plan falls through when an heir is conceived outside of wedlock and the royal family must find refuge at Rosenbad Castle. There, Cazotte the expert will in turn fall in love with Ehrengard, the maid of honor.

Ehrengarde or the Art of Seduction : the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II, designed the sets and costumes

Barely put online, the Danish production quickly entered the top of the most viewed films on Netflix. A success that the feature film owes to its script, its direction, but also to its costumes and sets, all created by the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II. “I have always been fascinated by Karen Blixen’s stories, by their aesthetic, their inventiveness and, in my eyes, their image-creating worlds. So I am very happy to participate in this project. You feel that the author was a visual artist in the same way as Hans Christian Anderson“, revealed the sovereign in a press release. “I tried to interpret the fantastic universe of Blixen through cutouts and costumes“, continued this great enthusiast of painting, embroidery and drawings. For his part, the director Bille August had indicated that “the queen has created the most fantastic cutouts for the occasion and they will be a dominant feature in the overall scenographic expression of the film“.

An exceptional evening at the Moltke Palace

On September 6, a few days before the feature film was put online, Queen Margrethe II attended the preview ofEhrengarde or the Art of Seduction at Moltke Palace, Copenhagen. For the occasion, the Danish sovereign opted for a red ensemble and simple black shoes, while her daughter-in-law, Crown Princess Mary, was dressed in a pink lace dress by designer Collette Dinnigan. During this exceptional evening, Queen Margrethe II posed alongside the actors – including Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, previously seen in The Rain – before greeting them warmly.
