Soon you’ll see (even) more electric cars appearing on Netflix original movies and series. This is natural, as more and more people use this type of vehicle. But in addition, the SVOD has just formalized a partnership with General Motors, to use the content of the platform to promote the electric car. More specifically, Netflix is joining General Motors’ “Everybody In” campaign, launched in 2021 to promote an all-electric future.

As part of this collaboration with the car manufacturer, Netflix announces that it will increase the presence of electric cars on the content it produces itself. Obviously, this does not concern the entire catalog, but only those films and series on which the appearance of an electric car is relevant. In any case, Deborah Wahl, director of marketing at General Motors, welcomes Netflix’s participation in this campaign, highlighting the effect it will have on the adoption of electric vehicles.

A cultural impact for the benefit of the electric car

GM wants to promote “electric car culture” through entertainment. And according to Wahl, “Netflix is a great partner because of the company’s compelling storytelling, commitment to sustainability, and track record of conversations that shape cultural trends.” SVOD will also educate the creators of its content, so that they understand the interest of integrating the electric car into their productions. And this one already announces the future appearances of General Motors electric vehicles (Chevrolet Bolt EUV, GMC HUMMER EV Pickup and Cadillac LYRIQ) on upcoming films and series.

In essence, Netflix series and films will therefore represent a more electric world. And at the same time, the SVOD recalls the commitments it has made for the climate, including halving its emissions by 2030. In terms of awareness, the company also indicates that in 2022, 165 million households (i.e. 70% of members) watched at least one content explaining climate issues.

More and more, the big tech players are encouraging their users to adopt a greener lifestyle. For example, in the United States, Apple offers a feature that allows the iPhone to be charged when the power grid is supplied with maximum green energy. Google, through its Google Maps application, regularly offers new features specially designed for owners of electric cars.
