One is happy, the other is surprised: an essay by a climate activist Luisa Neubauer was presented for analysis in Abitur examinations in Lower Saxony. The 27-year-old reported on Instagram: “Guys, what???”, she writes there. And further: “In Lower Saxony, politics Abi was written today and it was simply an essay by me.”
The essay from 2022, published by “Zeit Online”, is entitled “Just because the right people govern does not mean that they are governed correctly”. The task in the Abitur exam: Summarize Neubauer’s statements and explain the influence of citizens, clubs, parties and social movements based on the text.
CDU education politicians “surprised” about Neubauer’s text in the Abitur exam
A text by Greens member Neubauer in the Abitur exam – that calls the education policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Christian Fühner, to the scene. He is particularly irritated because the Greens Minister Julia Willie Hamburg is responsible for the Abitur exams. “As the CDU parliamentary group, we will ask whether Ms. Hamburg had a direct or indirect influence on the selection of the test. And why, of all things, a text by climate activist and Greens member Neubauer was chosen,” says Fühner zur “Bild” newspaper.
Of course, it is not uncommon for such essays to be dealt with in Abitur exams. But, according to Fühner, there are more neutral and less controversial authors for it. “I was quite amazed that the text by an activist was chosen,” says the education politician to “Bild”.
Ministry on Neubauer text in Abitur exam: “This is anything but unusual”
The newspaper also quotes the Ministry of Education in Lower Saxony: The fact that current newspaper articles are analyzed in Abitur exams is “anything but unusual”, according to a spokesman. There were a total of three suggestions from which the teachers could choose two. The students can then work on one of the two suggestions.
Luisa Neubauer is a member of the Greens. According to her own statement, she is currently not involved in the party. Instead, Neubauer recently criticized the Greens several times for their policies.
