The organizers were very satisfied with the response. “It’s been well received. It was worth beating the drums,” organizer and board member Willi Hülskemper drew a satisfied first conclusion. A total of 26 teams had registered to fly trees, so that the successful event dragged on into the afternoon. Except for the mixed celebrity team with the mayor, priest and church council, marksman queen and representatives of the sponsors Bellendorf and Bitburger, all teams were recruited from the associations, clubs and institutions of the district. In addition to many teams from the departments of the VFL Grafenwald and the companies of the rifle club, delegations from the fire brigade, the choirs, the Seepferdchen daycare center and the primary school took part with teams of students and teachers.

Fir trees have been pruned beforehand to suit the group

Each team had six participants regardless of age or gender. The fir trees, donated by Holz Hegener and Fockenberg, had been trimmed beforehand so that the children had to throw one-kilo tree tops, the women two-and-a-half kilos and the men five kilos of prickly greenery as far as possible. Celebrity team wins unusual competition

In the children’s teams, the 2nd team of the VfL D youth won ahead of class 4b of the elementary school and the second team of the D youth. The sunshine in the morning had already attracted many visitors, who were not deterred by the light rain in between. Queues formed at the refreshment stations and there were few seats under the pavilions. In many cases, the home lunch was replaced by potato pancakes or bratwurst.
