New design at the Rohrbach Cemetery

Dornbirn. Comprehensive design measures will be carried out at the Rohrbach Cemetery in the coming months. With the design concept, the cemetery is to be further developed as a resting place and green space, equipped with a high quality of stay.

“The measures include, among other things, the maintenance of the surface coverings, the construction of new urn walls and the creation of an avenue along the main path,” says Deputy Mayor Julian Fässler. Work will begin in the second half of the year and is expected to be completed by spring 2024.

An important part of the redesign is the construction of new urn walls for a total of 432 urn graves. The expansion is necessary because the capacity of the urn walls will be exhausted by the end of the year. With the six new urn walls, the demand can be covered for around nine to ten years. In addition, the renovation of the northern path along Rohrbacher Straße, which is damaged due to subsidence, is planned. The work is mainly carried out by the road maintenance department.

Further implementation steps of the master plan are the creation of an avenue and the surface design on the main path, the new construction of the urn walls south of the main path and tree plantings in the area of ​​the old urn walls. A closed avenue is to be planted along the main path with narrow-crowned wild pears, which will contribute to the design enhancement. Additional benches will be placed along the main path in the shade of the new avenue to increase the quality of stay, especially for older visitors.

In the area of ​​the old urn walls in the western entrance area, 16 narrow-crowned wild pears are planted to beautify the area and create a uniform appearance. New seating options will also be created here. The redesign of the Rohrbach Cemetery will contribute to the cemetery being perceived as a resting place and at the same time as a green space with a high quality of life.
