New night train and long-distance connections: European metropolises and regions should be better connected and reached by rail in the future. The EU Commission relies on cooperation between state and private railway companies.

As part of a pilot project, trains are to run faster and more frequently between several EU countries in the future. According to the EU Commission, the project includes new or improved test links, including several connecting Germany to other EU countries.

In the future, passengers will be able to travel more frequently from Germany to Scandinavian countries, as the Commission announced in Brussels. According to the information, the first connections will start in the summer, and others are to follow step by step.

New night train connects Stockholm, Copenhagen and Berlin

Within the project, for example, a new night train is to connect Stockholm, Copenhagen and Berlin. In addition, a new Flixtrain connection will bring people from Leipzig via Berlin and Copenhagen to Stockholm in the future. According to the information, a new connection from Prague via Berlin to Copenhagen is also planned, as well as a day train from Hamburg to Gothenburg. A test connection also takes people from Munich to Zurich and another from Munich via Vienna to Budapest. Accordingly, passengers can also look forward to a new connection from Rome to Munich and from Milan to Munich.

New night trains are also to run between Paris, Milan and Venice and between Amsterdam and Barcelona. New connections are also planned – for example between Lisbon, A Coruña and Madrid and between Catalonia and southern France. According to the EU Commission, the projects will be implemented together with the state and private railway companies.
