Around 60 state visits take place in the main building each year, which means that garden work can only be carried out at limited times. Efficient performance and professional execution are required. The letter goes on to say: “The claims go far beyond the usual level.”
Garden tools must not be louder than 98 decibels
The Chancellery also goes into details. “The minimum growth height of five centimeters must be observed in all areas (including at the transitions to paths and beds).” When cutting the hedge, attention must be paid to a “strict geometric shape”. The “use of a direction finder line” is absolutely necessary.
“Only rainwater collected in cisterns is used for watering the garden,” it continues. The chancellor’s office requires that mainly electrical devices are used, which under no circumstances may exceed a volume of 98 decibels. Even when gardening, knives must not penetrate deeper than 0.2 cm into the turf base layer.
The gardeners can submit their offers until May 9th. In total, the workers have to take care of an area of 32,000 square meters. “All employees deployed must be able to read and understand the instructions of the client and the security personnel of the Federal Police as well as hazard warnings in German,” the papers continue.
It is not known how high the costs for the maintenance of the green area are. The federal budget for 2023 has calculated a total of 5.7 million euros for the “maintenance of the land and structural facilities” of the building.
