Everything indicates that Intel is preparing to launch a new line of desktop processors, known as Raptor Lake-S Refresh. These processors will be available from October 2023, although the company has not yet confirmed this information.
According to the details that have been leaked so far, these processors promise to be faster and better compatibility with memories with high frequencies. But, one detail to keep in mind is that this increase in performance could result in higher energy consumption. This new range of products is expected to be identified as the 14th generation Core seriesRemember that Intel changed the names last week.
Leaks indicate that Intel plans to release unlocked (K with Overclockable) versions of the processors. Raptor Lake-S Refresh in October 2023, followed by the locked versions (No K without the possibility of Overclock) between November and December of the same year. Also, it is rumored that Intel has included a new version of CPU, with 8 P-Core cores and 12 efficiency cores, the E-Cores, this could be an interesting model to enhance the Core i7 line with more E-Core.
It is important to note that, as with all information coming from leaks, the existence of this version has not yet been officially confirmed. The new processors will be compatible with 600 and 700 series motherboards, which use the LGA 1700/1800 socket.
What are the new Intel launches about?
The true upgrade to desktop CPUs will come in late 2024 or early 2025. Intel Arrow Lake-S CPUs will mark a major transition in terms of architecture, with new P-Core and E-Core. These new CPUs will be compatible with the next LGA 1851 socketbut will retain the 8 P-Core and 16 E-Core designs.
Nothing is set in stone until Intel reveals all of this. But for now it looks like they will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process node, we don’t know if this is for the whole chip or a specific tiledsince Arrow Lake CPUs use a multi-tiled architecture.
However, the rumors about upcoming releases from Intel do not end there. This is because the leak highlights that the Intel HEDT upgrade will come in the form of the Xeon W-2500 and Xeon W-3500, replacing the current Xeon W-2400 and Xeon W-3500 series.
