I can’t remember what came first: the question of what to use a disused fourth-generation Kindle for – or the need to always keep an eye on our family calendar on Google. In any case, this resulted in our calendar e-book.

Older and unused Kindle devices are too good to throw away. The system used is energy-saving and the eInk display is large and easy to read. They also have a web browser for displaying websites (HTML with CSS and JavaScript). The devices are therefore well suited for the presentation of information that rarely changes – for example, for displaying calendar data.

Google offers access to its various services, including Google Calendar, via Apps Script. So the idea was to prepare the calendar data using a script and display it as a website on the Kindle.
