Philips surprised by announcing its new monitor, a model aimed at the business market that has as one of its differentials the fact that it has two screens, one of them with e-ink technology.

The so-called Philips 24B1D5600 merges two very different worlds in order to deliver a differentiated experience, such as an e-ink screen being added thinking about the usability of those who read and write frequently on the computer. Still, it relies on a traditional display for all other activities.

The “electronic ink” screen simulates a paper, significantly reducing the emission of blue light harmful to vision. By bringing a matte finish it makes the lights even less harmful to the eyes, and also consumes less energy.

On the other hand, the technology has its negative points, such as a significantly reduced refresh rate, lower resolution and a limited ability to reproduce colors — in the case of the Philips 24B1D5600 monitor, the e-ink panel only reproduces black and white.

On a single basis, the two screens are interconnected, with the traditional display being 24 inches in size and using IPS technology, a 16:9 aspect ratio, a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a refresh rate of 75 Hz. The secondary e-ink screen is 13.3 inches with a 3:4 aspect ratio, a resolution of 1,200 x 1,600 pixels and 4-bit grayscale.

The monitor has a DisplayPort 1.2 port and a USB Type-C connection for image input, a Kensington lock and support for the VESA standard of 100×100 mm.

price and availability

Listed on the official website of Phlips in several countries, its official price has not yet been confirmed, with indications that it costs something that converts to 850 dollars in China, approximately R$ 4,200. Despite having Brazilian Portuguese support, there is still no information about its arrival in our country.
