The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard recently ended. The sci-fi series on the Paramount Plus streaming platform not only brought the story of Star Trek: The Next Generation to a temporary end, the final episodes were enthusiastically celebrated by fans. Accordingly, there are calls for a fourth season. However, a continuation of Star Trek: Picard is currently unlikely. But there is hope!

Star Trek at Paramount Plus: What’s Next?

Fans of Gene Roddenberry’s sci-fi universe can look forward to more episodes of Star Trek: Discovery be happy. While the series that fueled the hype around the franchise will be canceled after season five, at least it’s coming early 2024 to a reunion with Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham.

Production of a new series is scheduled to begin on Paramount Plus later that year. However, the release of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy may still take a while. The new film Star Trek: Section 31, on the other hand, should be available as a stream much earlier. Preparations are already in full swing.

Star Trek: Legacy – will the new series become a reality?

But what about a sequel to Star Trek: Picard? Since a fourth season is apparently rather unlikely at the moment, a not inconsiderable proportion of fans want a spin-off in the form of a legacy series. Within this framework, the descendants of The Next Generation crew could carry on the legacy of Star Trek.

When asked about this, producer, director and screenwriter Alex Kurtzman replied: “Anything is possible. We heard the fans’ wishes loud and clear. There are obviously more stories to tell.” Apparently, Paramount is well aware of how well Picard’s third season was received by audiences. After this statement, it doesn’t seem improbable that this success will be built on in some form.
