The new Tizi-Ouzou stadium should be inaugurated next April. The high authorities of the country have decided to name it after the late Hocine Ait-Ahmed. A Moudjahid and emblematic figure in the city of Tizi-Ouzou.

After the two Miloud Hadefi (Oran) and Nelson Mandela (Baraki) stadiums, Algeria is preparing to receive a new stadium, that of Tizi-Ouzou. The work was completed a few weeks ago.

Regarding the inauguration, it is scheduled for soon. Indeed, it should take place in two months, next April. Located in Boukhalfa, the new Tizi-Ouzou stadium, with a capacity of 52,000 seats, consists of 12 buildings and annexes. It also has an athletics stadium with 6,500 covered seats and a natural grass replica field.

The new Tizi-Ouzou stadium called Hocine Ait-Ahmed?

The name of the new Tizi-Ouzou stadium is known. According to the P/APC of Tizi-Ouzou, Ouahab Ait-Menguellat, it will bear the name of Moudjahid Hocine Ait-Ahmed.

“Frankly, the Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City, Mohamed-Tarek Belarbi, ensured that the new Tizi-Ouzou stadium was delivered on time. He is to be thanked. Regarding the name of the stadium, it will be worthy of its greatness. Indeed, he will bear the name of Hocine Ait-Ahmed”. He confided, in a statement granted to the media “La Patrie News”.

Born on August 20, 1920 in Ain El-Hammam in the wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou, Hocine Ait-Ahmed is one of the politicians who have marked the history of Algeria. At the age of 16, he joined the Algerian People’s Party (PPA). He quickly became one of the most prominent leaders. Founding member of the Special Organization, which he thought up and took over on the death of Mohamed Belouizdad. It is in this capacity that he presents to the Central Committee of the party meeting in Zeddine the report of the same name, where he demonstrates the inevitability of the armed struggle and defines the best means for its success. Exiled in Cairo, he is one of the 9 leaders of the historic National Liberation Front, of which he will be the spearhead of diplomacy during all the years of struggle for independence.

Creator of the Fronts des Forces Sociales (FFS) party, he died on December 23, 2015 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
