The shortage of construction workers has ‘hit’ the work being carried out at the Ciudad Juárez international airport, which is progressing slowly due to a lack of manpower.

Dagoberto Cedillos Barraza, president of the Juárez Regional Economic Development Council (Coder), explained that a baggage claim room has yet to be inaugurated, which OMA promised would be ready before Easter Week.

“We would like progress to be faster, but right now there is a shortage of labor in construction, which is what has impacted all sectors, including industry,” he said.

He said that visits have been made every month to monitor the progress of this work, in which a growth of 2.5 million passengers per year is projected.

“Room C, for last waiting, is already in operation, but the other baggage claim room is missing,” he said.

Cedillos Barraza said that when Coder began, more than 62 projects were identified for Ciudad Juárez, of which 24 were prioritized.

“Recently, in the last few months, we have identified 13 projects, of the same 24 that we had already commented on, that require more attention,” he said.

In addition to the international airport, the BRT, the Convention Center, the IMSS hospital, the Historic Center, the Artificial Intelligence Center, the Center for Innovation and Integration of Advanced Technologies and the Central Park, among others, stand out.

The president of Coder recalled that the objective of this body is to identify, promote and monitor projects that are carried out in the city. (Iris González / El Diario)
