Oberhausen.
Would you like to take a quick sip of water from the fountain on a hot summer’s day? That should soon (again) be possible in Oberhausen.

In the future there will be more drinking water fountains in the city of Oberhausen. That’s what the SPD demands.

The SPD parliamentary group in the city council has now applied for the re-establishment of five fountains at former locations in Sterkrade, Holten and Alt-Oberhausen, funding opportunities from the state and federal government as well as financial help from the Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerksgesellschaft (RWW) should be used for this project.

“An important component of municipal heat action plans”

“With the change in the water management law by the federal government, the provision of freely available tap water in public places is now also a service of general interest,” the environmental policy spokesman for the parliamentary group, Manfred Flore, is quoted as saying in a current SPD statement. The regulation is not only aimed at granting as many citizens as possible public access to high-quality drinking water. “Readily available drinking water is also an important component of municipal heat action plans,” explains Manfred Flore.

The old drinking water wells operated by the RWW in Oberhausen had to be dismantled some time ago for hygienic reasons.
