Acer presented the smart Bike Desk eKinekt BD 3 today. The gadget combines a desk with a stationary bike, enabling a sustainable and healthier lifestyle. With the eKinekt BD 3 you can work and train at the same time, while the kinetic energy generated drives and charges the devices used directly via two USB Type-A ports or one USB Type-C port. The integrated LCD display and an accompanying smartphone app provide information about individual progress during training or work. For the necessary comfort, the resistance of the bike, the seat and the table height can be easily adjusted to the desired position.

Conversion of kinetic energy into reusable electricity

When you pedal, the eKinekt BD 3 immediately converts the resulting kinetic energy into electrical charge. An hour of constant cycling at 60 revolutions per minute on the smart gadget generates up to 75 watts of self-produced energy. This in turn is then used to charge notebooks and other (mobile) devices – the perfect symbiosis of physical activity and an effective workflow. Both the table top and the protective housing of the eKinekt BD 3 are made of PCR plastic (post-consumer recycling) and thus follow Acer’s environmentally conscious guideline.

Comfort and simplicity when working

The multifunction bicycle table has two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, so that multiple mobile devices can be charged at the same time. An LED charge indicator on the back of the bike shows that the kinetic energy is being converted by pedaling. The wide work surface of the eKinekt BD 3 offers the user enough space to work, while the individually adjustable table and seat height ensure a comfortable sitting position. For added convenience, the table is equipped with a handy drink holder and a bag hook for hanging personal items.

work mode and sport mode

The bike desk comes with two different modes: In work mode, the table top moves closer to the seat, so that an upright position can be guaranteed when typing while driving. In sport mode, the table top is moved further forward from the seat, leaving more space for cycling, similar to a regular exercise bike. So there is more legroom and the pedaling power can be increased. The smart design enables intensive training in the smallest of spaces during breaks or between work phases, helping to keep your head clear and stay fit. After the training session, you can seamlessly return to work mode by simply sliding the tabletop back to its original position.

Track progress with the companion app

The eKinekt BD 3 comes with an easy-to-use app that provides real-time information on ride time, distance and speed while showing the estimated number of calories burned and wattage generated while pedaling. Personal data such as height, weight, gender and age can be added to the app profile for more precise tracking. The app also tracks exercise history so personal progress can be tracked and results compared over time.

price and availability

The eKinekt BD 3 is expected to be available in EMEA from June at recommended retail prices starting at EUR/CHF 999.
