Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) feels reminded of the situation in the French capital Paris when the firecracker attacks on police and fire brigade forces on New Year’s Eve. According to several participants, she said that on Friday to employees of the Berlin fire brigade in Neukölln.
Massive riots are more common in Paris, most recently after fatal shots at several Kurds or during the World Cup. She doesn’t want such conditions in Germany, said Faeser.
Faeser and Berlin’s governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) announced the consequences when they visited the fire station after the New Year’s Eve riots. The interior minister wants to tighten gun laws and restrict the sale of alarm guns.
Giffey said that New Year’s Eve was just the “tip of the iceberg” and that the decline in values was “visible on all other days”. Some young people no longer felt they belonged to society. Giffey called for a rethink in the judiciary and for criminal offenses to be punished quickly.
However, Berlin’s Justice Senator Lena Kreck (left) does not consider accelerated procedures to be suitable. The judges’ association calls for more staff for rapid prosecution, the judiciary is broken.
