New Yorkers make last purchases in shopping centers

Today is Christmas Eve, and hundreds of Christmas shoppers flock to shopping centers to make their last purchases.

At Queens Center Mall, shoppers got up early to get those last-minute gifts. We have seen several lines outside different stores that have extended their offers. Many people told us that this year they couldn’t finish their Christmas shopping on time.

Dozens of New Yorkers arrived early at Queens Center Mall this Sunday to make last-minute purchases and take advantage of coupons and up to 50 percent discounts at different stores.

Like every year, stores open and close early the day before Christmas to accommodate those who wait for the last minute to make their purchases.

Americans plan to spend an average of $875 on holiday shopping, a National Retail Federation survey forecast, up $42 from last year.

Some shoppers say they were late this year finishing their Christmas shopping.

“Well, I still need a couple of things for the family, but I almost have everything, that’s why I came at this time because I’m not going to stay long. I already did it in advance,” says Sissy Juez, a Queens resident.

“This year it caught me last, but every year I’m always early with my things, but not this year,” says María Lugo, a Queens resident.

If you still need to do your last shopping, this shopping center will be open today until 6 pm.
