Palm Beach County offers dogs for adoption

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Pens are completely full of dogs, holding 144 animals and currently holding over 200. If the community does not step up the risk to some of these animals is unfortunately euthanasia.

Overpopulated is the Palm Beach County animal care and control shelter, where more dogs are admitted than adopted.

Melanie Perazzo, public relations officer for Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, explains that “right now we are seeing up to 35 dogs coming in daily but only 10 being adopted.”

This proportion has made the shelter no longer supply. “We are the main shelter in the county, we are open admission so we cannot deny anyone that comes with the dog, we have to take all the animals that come in.”

There are several ways that the community can and should help. “We need people to come and adopt and to come and sign up as fosters or a temporary house for our dogs, also sign up to volunteer. We have many opportunities”.

Sometimes, there are dogs with aggressiveness problems or severe medical problems, when this is the case and no other shelter that works with the county can receive them, the options are few.

“It is that sometimes we have to put the dogs to sleep in a humane way but it is a reality of our shelter, that is why we need the help of our community, of our colleagues, everyone who can help. Please, because we cannot close our doors, we are here to help the community and they need to help us,” ask the local workers.

Be encouraged to adopt and give them a temporary home or become a volunteer. Adoptions are currently free of charge and many animals are waiting to become part of your family.
