New Yorkers will receive a $100 credit for registering their water bill account for automatic payment

NEW YORK — This is good news for New Yorkers, as the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is offering a $100 incentive credit to encourage customers to enroll in automatic payment to pay your water bill.

This limited-time opportunity will only last for three months, until November 15, so interested customers should register quickly.

The goal with this measure is that those who sign up for automatic payment should receive electronic invoices, which eliminates physical paper invoices and, therefore, is a more environmentally friendly alternative.

“This is a great opportunity for our customers to save $100 on their next bill simply by signing up for automatic payment,” said DEP Commissioner Rohit T. Aggarwala. “Automatic payment ensures that customer invoices are paid on time and reduces the stress of missing a payment. I encourage everyone to sign up today and save.”

Auto Pay allows customers to pay their bills automatically on the due date, or on a specific date each month, and avoid the hassle of remembering to pay on time. The Auto Pay feature automatically deducts a customer’s balance or payment amount from their bank account or credit card.

Approximately 100,000 accounts, or 12% of DEP customers, are currently enrolled in Auto Pay. This initiative is intended to increase enrollment, which will help keep accounts current, increase customer satisfaction, and reduce the volume of invoice inquiries to our call center, city offices, and mail unit.

Customers must be enrolled in monthly billing, paperless billing and cannot be delinquent on bills. If a customer has multiple accounts, all accounts may be eligible for the one-time $100 non-refundable credit, if all program requirements are met.

Please note that customers must remain current on their bills and be enrolled in autopay, paperless billing, and monthly billing for six months after the $100 credit is applied to the account. If any of these qualifying actions are changed, the $100 credit will be revoked.

Additional information can be found quickly here or by calling DEP Customer Service during business hours Monday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. :00 am to 12:00 pm at (718) 595-7000. Please note that only homeowners can sign up for automatic payment, monthly billing, and paperless billing. DEP staff are not able to enroll customer accounts in these services.

DEP is launching this savings program as a continuation of the successful amnesty program that waived interest charges for customers who paid their overdue water bills.
