Newcastle.- Newcastle surprised Tottenham 6-1 on Sunday in the Premier League.

In a duel between two teams seeking their ticket to the next Champions League tie, Newcastle went on to lead 5-0 in a span of 21 minutes at St. James’ Park.

Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak each had a brace in an explosive start to the game, Joelinton added the other goal.

Harry Kane brought Spurs closer, but Callum Wilson scored again for Newcastle.

“It’s not often that you can start a game like that, especially one that big,” coach Eddie Howe acknowledged. “I’m loving it with the whole group, really a team effort.”

With the victory, Newcastle placed third over Manchester United on goal difference and with six units more than Tottenham. Newcastle has one game less.

Tottenham have just one win in four games since manager Antonio Conte left the club by mutual agreement last month and his assistant Cristian Stellini took over as caretaker.

“It went so badly because we weren’t sufficiently prepared for such an important match,” admitted Stellini. “We have a good team, but nobody showed it today. It was my responsibility to decide the game system”.

Adding to Tottenham’s concerns, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was substituted at half time with a hip problem.

“My injury doesn’t look good,” the player commented.

FIGHT TO SURVIVE

West Ham have a better chance of staying in the Premier League after crushing relegation-threatened Bournemouth 4-0.

With this victory, the Hammers moved six points above the relegation zone in 13th place in the standings.

Bournemouth meanwhile are five points above the relegation zone and face bottom-line Southampton on Thursday.
