It’s off to the command bridge in a museum in the north of the Netherlands, while the “Sunrunner” goes into operation in the “Sunshine State”. There is also news for vacationers from Germany.

On the command bridge in Texel

Holidaymakers on the Dutch North Sea island of Texel can feel like a ferry captain. In the Juttersmuseum Flora One of the wheelhouses of the Schulpengat ferry, which carried millions of passengers from the mainland to the island and back between 1990 and 2015, is on display as part of a ferry exhibition. The tourist organization VVV Texel provides information about this.

Also on display are models of all ships that have traveled between the island and the coastal town of Den Helder over the course of more than 100 years of ferry history.

New entry-level route at Ultratrail

The Zugspitz Ultratrail, a demanding race for cross-country skiers in and around Garmisch-Partenkirchen, offers a new route for beginners when it is held this summer. The Grainau Trail is 15 kilometers long and is therefore only about half as long as the second shortest trail. If you really want to know, you can register for the 111-kilometer ultra trail – there are a total of six routes to choose from in the race.

The participation fees vary between 35 and 175 euros depending on the time of registration and the selected route. The Run will take place this year from June 16th to 18th. The organizers expect up to 4000 runners from all over the world.






Florida: Free bus ride to St. Pete Beach

– A new, initially free bus route will take tourists in Saint Petersburg on Florida’s Gulf Coast from downtown to St. Pete Beach. The “sun runner‘ runs every 15 minutes during the day along the 16-kilometer route, according to regional tourism agency Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. So far, vacationers had to take the car to drive from downtown to the beach.


The bus makes 30 stops along the way. Accordingly, it can also be used for sightseeing. The offer will be free until November 2023, when tickets will cost a good two US dollars.

Closing the gap on the Lahn cycle path

Two new bridges make cycling the Lahn cycle path more comfortable. So far, the cycle path in the lower Lahn valley, between Laurenburg and Baduinstein, has led up an incline from the bank – if you didn’t feel like it, you had to switch to the train or a canoe shuttle to avoid the passage, writes Rhineland-Palatinate Tourism. But now two bridges have been opened so that you can drive along the river there.

The Lahn bike path is almost 250 kilometers long and follows the course of the river from its source in the Rothaar Mountains to where it flows into the Rhine.

Celebrity Ascent’s maiden voyage is to the Caribbean

Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship will embark on her maiden voyage December 3 from Fort Lauderdale. According to the US shipping company, the Celebrity Ascent’s first voyage will be through the eastern Caribbean. Among other things, Philipsburg on St. Martin and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic will be called at. Until April 2024, the Ascent will always depart from Fort Lauderdale on eight-day cruises to the Caribbean.

Virtual hall of mirrors in Merseburg Palace

According to the district, the opening of the hall of mirrors for visitors is planned from the end of March 2023, initially only on weekends.
