Nicaragua seeks to demonstrate in the Caribbean Series that it has the level to be a permanent member

MIAMI.- Playing to win, the Nicaraguan team comes out with that mentality in the 2024 Caribbean Series. But being in the LoanDepot Park is already a triumph for Nicaraguan baseball, which for many years has wanted to participate in the regional event.

“This is special for many reasons. First time in a stadium in the United States and it is being played in Miami, where there are 99.9% Latinos. This is going to go crazy, like in the classic,” said Marvin Benard, manager of the team that for the first time participates in a Caribbean Series, this time as a guest.

The Nicaraguan team, which began the competition against Puerto Rico, will try to win all the games, but they have in mind to demonstrate that they are suitable to participate year after year, even as members of the Caribbean Baseball Confederation.

“You put all that in mind, because you want to be here. At one point they invited Cuba, Colombia, which are not there today. We are looking for this possibility of it being something like the four 4 that are permanent, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela. If we want to get in there,” said the strategist, who played nine seasons in the Grades Leagues with the San Francisco Giants.

The Nicaraguan community in Florida is large and the team’s strategist hopes to have the same support, although this time he can give them a victory.

“We know that the team is not the same as the classic, although there are about 60% of those players. The other 40% came as reinforcements that we have and some Nicaraguans who represent the daddies for the first time,” he continued. “This is going to go crazy, like in the classic. For us it is a pleasure to be here and we hope to please the people.”
