Niger's military coup junta says it will step down in three years

The coup military junta installed in power in Niger Since last July 26, he has affirmed that his plans include initiating a long three-year political transition at the end of which democracy would be reinstated and power would return to the people.

The president of the military junta, which now rules Niger, General Abdourahamane TianiHe issued a harsh warning against any attempt at foreign intervention to reverse the coup he led and assured that the work of the junta will end in three years.

During an intervention broadcast on television, he assured that this 3-year limit of the military in power will be enough to fulfill its mission: «We have no ambition to seize power», he assured.

In his speech, he stated that the military in Niger they are prepared to repel any foreign “aggression” and accused West African countries of preparing an armed intervention.

“The Economic Community of States of West Africa (ECOWAS) is preparing an attack on Niger. For that they are forming an occupation army in collaboration with a foreign army,” he assured, although he did not give any clues as to which foreign army he was referring to.

On the other hand, he appealed to the «national dialogue», asked for «concrete proposals» and pointed out that the objective of the military junta is «to lay the foundations of a new constitutional life».
