The list of beaches in Spain that will be awarded the Blue Flag quality seal this year has been announced: the popular Playa de Palma is no longer included, as the “Mallorca Zeitung” reports.

That was because the water samples taken last year were only rated as “good,” a spokeswoman for Stadtwerke Emaya told MZ. It was therefore impossible to get the Blue Flag, even though the highest mark had been achieved in all other categories. For the Blue Flag, among other things, the water quality, the rescue services and the range of services are evaluated.

A German vacationer drowned in the sea off Mallorca on Tuesday evening. The 65-year-old went into the water on the beach of Sa Canova (Artà municipality) and probably misjudged the strong current, as reported by the “Mallorca Zeitung”. Accordingly, the man was driven out into the sea and no longer made it back to the beach on his own. A companion who was also in the water was reportedly able to save himself.

The newspaper “Ultima Hora” reports that at the same time on the same beach a woman got into trouble. She was taken to the hospital in Manacor in critical condition and survived.

In the coming weeks there should be more controls so that the theft scam with the flowers does not spread again.

The previously mild spring in Mallorca is over. Now it’s getting hot.
