Mexico City.A week after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that Morena should define the candidate to succeed him in 2024 next August, Mario Delgado, leader of that party, offered to advance the call for the internal process to the second week of June.

In private meetings with Claudia Sheinbaum, Adán Augusto López and Ricardo Monreal, Delgado proposed a meeting on June 8 and 10 to outline the terms of the call, which will be ready before the 15th of that month.

AMLO said in a meeting at the National Palace with senators and the so-called “corcholatas” that the decision on the presidential candidate should be made in three months.

Until yesterday Delgado had not been able to meet with Marcelo Ebrard, who has argued scheduling problems to receive him. The chancellor has demanded clear rules and the immediate resignation of applicants.

The chancellor has been the candidate who has pressured the national leadership the most to define the rules.

This opinion poll could be carried out between July and August, with the intention of identifying who has the greatest recognition and trust among citizens.

The exercise will be carried out by the Morena National Survey Commission, but also by two or three private pollsters, who will ask the same questions to give certainty to the result.

The survey of the second survey is scheduled to take place between September and October.

The calendar is designed based on what is established by the legal framework, since pre-campaigns for the constitutional process will begin until the third week of November.

As has happened in other selection processes, whoever is the winner or winner in the surveys will assume the position of Coordinator of the Defense Committees of the 4T.

Delgado has expressed reservations about the need for applicants to resign from public office early.

According to the leader, an early departure could generate a risk of accusations about early campaign events.

‘Don’t eat cravings’

Interviewed in Puebla, the head of the capital’s government asked her co-religionists “not to eat cravings” for the definition of 2024.

Sheinbaum considered that the priority is to maintain unity.

-First the local elections and then 2024? she asked.

“That’s right, there is time for everything, you don’t have to eat cravings and above all, keep unity, the most important thing is the project and being with the President,” he replied.

-Do you see division risk confusions? she insisted.

“None, none, none. I already said that the favorite is the 4T,” he added.

In the same sense, the Secretary of the Interior asked to wait for the times of Morena and also the legal ones.

“You have to respect the times, I respect,” he said.

-What would you say to those who ask that it is necessary to define? she asked herself.

“Patience and prudence,” he replied.

Interviewed separately, Monreal confirmed that, after the Edomex and Coahuila elections, the candidates will meet with Delgado to refine the content of the call.

He agreed with Sheinbaum that maintaining unity is a priority.

“In a month we are going to meet to set the rules for the call stage,” he said.

“This is a key moment of cohesion, any fissure can generate disagreements and we must give priority to unity, the country and the national project.”
