After no more oil from Russia came to Schwedt via the Druzhba pipeline, the Energy Committee of the Bundestag discussed the situation at the PCK refinery in a special session on Monday. The only item on the agenda is a report by the Federal Ministry of Economics on the supply of oil to East Germany from January 2023, in particular to PCK Schwedt. At the request of the left-wing faction, the specialist politicians are dealing with the supply and the location of the refinery in Brandenburg.

According to the will of the federal government, no Russian oil has been coming to the PCK refinery in Schwedt/Oder via the Druzhba pipeline since the turn of the year. First of all, crude oil flows via the port of Rostock, which means that the refinery’s capacity utilization is only around 50 percent.

According to the federal government, the PCK should be 70 percent occupied with oil via the port of Gdansk in the future. In addition, crude oil is to come from Kazakhstan. According to PCK, nine out of ten cars in Berlin and Brandenburg run on fuel from Schwedt.

Left-wing member of the Bundestag Christian Görke calls for greater use of oil from Kazakhstan. In addition to the deliveries via the port of Rostock, the PCK refinery could be almost fully utilized with Kazakh oil, he announced before the committee meeting. According to his own statements, the former Brandenburg finance minister held talks with representatives of the government and a state oil company in Kazakhstan in December. (dpa)
