Guest of RMC-BFMTV, the environmental deputy Julien Bayou said he was shocked by the slogan sung by his running mate Christophe Prudhomme, elected regional LFI of Île-de-France, and which linked the beheading of Louis XVI to Emmanuel Macron.

Julien Bayou does not compare Emmanuel Macron to Louis XVI. Guest of RMC-BFMTV on Tuesday, the EELV deputy criticized the slogan sung by Christophe Prudhomme, elected LFI to the regional council of Île-de-France, in these terms: “Louis XVI, we beheaded him, Macron, we can start over.”

“It is not at all the role of an elected official. It is not at all the slogans that I would have sung,” reacted the former national secretary of EELV.

Invited on BFMTV to explain his use of the slogan, Christophe Prudhomme assured that in this slogan, “it is not the man who is attacked, it is the function”, saying he prefers that “anger is expressed verbally” and in a “symbolic” way.

Elected on Julien Bayou’s list in 2021

The president of the Île-de-France region Valérie Pécresse explained on Tuesday that she “strongly condemns the words of the regional councilor”, denouncing “a call for violence and hatred against the President of the Republic. A condemnation similar was formulated by Vincent Jeanbrun, president of the majority group in the regional council, who also called for voting “sanctions” against the elected LFI.

Christophe Prudhomme was elected to the Île-de-France region after campaigning on a joint list between EELV-LFI-PS led by Julien Bayou. The list came second behind that of Valérie Pécresse.
