Notice of conservation of electrical energy is issued due to high temperatures in Texas

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans to voluntarily reduce electricity use due to high temperatures on Tuesday.

The notice goes into effect Tuesday, June 20 at 4:00 p.m.

For its part, the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat advisory for central Texas until 9:00 p.m. this Wednesday. High temperatures of 100 to 112 degrees and maximum heat index values of up to 118 can be expected, according to the agency.

The Notice of Voluntary Retention is part of ERCOT’s Texas Warning and Notification System (TXANS), which alerts the public to network conditions.

In addition, ERCOT has requested all government agencies (including city and county offices) to implement all programs to reduce energy use at their facilities.

Despite ERCOT’s request, the Council said it is not experiencing emergency conditions. “Voluntary conservation is a widely used industry tool that can help reduce demand,” the statement said.
