In 2019, it became clear that Google bought the wearable company Fitbit for the equivalent of around SEK 20 billion. In January 2021, the purchase was completed and since then the company has been working on bringing the Fitbit products properly under its umbrella.

An important part of that work is migrating all Fitbit accounts to Google diton, something that has been announced to be in the works for a while now. And now it’s clear that Fitbit users will be able to sign in with Google accounts starting this summer, reports Techcrunch. For new users it becomes a requirement.

As a user, you will likely be greeted by various dialog boxes asking you to link a Google account to your Fitbit. But it is not until 2025 that the deadline to do this expires. The new account requirement is introduced, among other things, to bring about more uniform integrity controls, but of course it is ultimately about managing users in one and the same ecosystem with all the advantages it can conceivably entail.
