NY hires trucks with showers for immigrants for 18 million dollars

NEW YORK.- The city of New York contracted a portable shower service to provide cleaning to ten shelters where immigrants are temporarily housed, according to a municipal document made public today.

The service called “emergency showers for rest centers” has a cost of 18 million dollars and has been contracted to the company Florida Imperial Restrooms, which specializes in portable toilets of a certain luxury, generally rented at weddings and large banquets.

The hiring of these “emergency showers” is known after numerous complaints from immigrants were registered that the services provided by the Mayor’s Office -mainly accommodation and food- sometimes lack the most basic elements.

Although at first the immigrants – who already exceed 90,000 after a year of uninterrupted arrivals – were housed in hotels, later they were taken to gyms, unoccupied schools and other facilities that did not have all the services.
