The failure-prone Joy-Cons bring Nintendo not only a lot of trouble, but also class action lawsuits. Nyxi has now introduced a controller that eliminates the underlying problem: there is no drift here. Furthermore, the design awakens cult feelings.

Sometimes third parties just do it better

Since the release of the Switch, the Joy-Cons have been a hotly debated topic – a look at our Nintendo Special shows that we have repeatedly reported about the trouble with the input devices in recent years. The third party Nyxi is now coming up with an interesting alternative, the “Wizard Wireless Joy-Pad”. The most important promise: Thanks to the use of Hall effect sensors for the joysticks – a technology in which the components do not touch, unlike Joy-Cons – one wants to be able to rule out drift for the entire “lifetime” of the controller.

The company then has a second argument for the controller, which fans of retro designs in particular will appreciate. The “Wizard” is modeled after the GameCube controller, including the iconic color scheme and button layout with an oversized A button. Nice extra: the buttons have a white background. Four triggers are placed on the back, plus two freely assignable buttons on the underside. In addition to the handheld configuration on the left and right of the display, it can also be used as a single controller thanks to the connecting rail.

Lots of nice extras

The rings around the two joysticks can then be exchanged for a certain degree of fine-tuning when gaming. For example, a circular inner ring makes sense in racing games, while an octagonal joystick circle has advantages in fighting games. Last but not least, a programmable turbo button has also been integrated. The Wizard Wireless Joy-Pad is available now from Nyxi’s website and costs the equivalent of around 65 euros, including international shipping.
