Getting behind the wheel for the first time: Many beginners choose a large parking lot for this. But it can even end up in prison. Here is the completely legal alternative.
The most important things at a glance
If you don’t have a driver’s license, you can’t drive a car. And if you don’t stick to it, you have to expect very unpleasant consequences. It also doesn’t matter whether you choose a secluded forest path for the first test drive. Nevertheless, there is the possibility that novice drivers can legally get behind the wheel.
Practice on designated traffic practice areas
There are places where driving without a license is allowed. Namely on designated traffic training areas. Two conditions apply:
- Depending on the provider, the novice driver must be at least 16 or 17 years old.
- An adult companion must present a valid driver’s license.
Companions should also note: Are the so-called daily liability insurance and fully comprehensive insurance included in the price? Or can they at least be completed additionally? Then you will not be upgraded in your own car insurance in the event of an accident.
Private property: Only with the consent of the owner
If the owner agrees, novice drivers may also practice on private property. This property must not be accessible to everyone. It should therefore be clearly delimited by a fence, for example.
Significant consequences for violations
Violations of the ban can result in a hefty fine or even imprisonment (up to one year). In addition, the driver’s license candidate can be banned from taking the test – for a few years.
There are also drastic consequences for the vehicle owner: in addition to a fine, his driver’s license can also be revoked.
