For whom read the horoscopes regularly and astrology occupies an important place when making decisions, the conventional signs are 12. So also for those who do not follow it and only know that their date of birth falls in a certain sign, which can be Capricorn, Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, among others. However, there is a controversy about the sign 13. It is called Ophiuchus, the sign that would run the entire astral calendar.
What is the origin of Ophiuchus?
The Ofiuco mystery has several edges. The Babylonians were the ones who started with the zodiac, dividing it into 12, to coincide with the annual calendar, however, some writings spoke of a 13th sign. That is Ophiuchus, who coincides with one of the 48 constellations recognized by the Greeks around the 5th century BC
In 1995, the British astrologer Walter Berg introduced the thirteenth sign, Ophiuchusand runs from November 30 to December 17, dates in which the conventional astrological calendar coincides with Sagittarius.
What controversy was generated with Ofiuco?
A rumor began to spread on social networks that Ofiuco would formally become part of the zodiac calendar from 2023. But this will not be the case. NASA had already denied, both in 2016 and 2020, that Ofiuco is simply a constellation but that it has been left out of the zodiac by decision of the Babylonians. The NASA clarified, at the time, that they they study “astronomy, not astrology.”
Who was Ophiuchus?
Ophiuchus was named in honor of Asclepius, a character from Greek mythology who was the son of Apollo and Coronis de Larisa. He was raised with the centaur Chiron, who was a well-known doctor who taught him medicine. Asclepius was able to cure any disease and revive the dead but was later killed by Zeus.
