Originally, the members of the hiking group of the Dornbirn Pensioners’ Association (PVÖ) planned to carry out a leisurely hike from Alberschwende via Bildstein to Schwarzach on the last day of March, which was postponed to Holy Week due to uncertain weather forecasts.

After arriving in Alberschwende, it was quite a steep climb to the hamlet of Abendreute. There we learned that this path is part of a historic mule track between the Rhine Valley and the Bregenz Forest. A ravine called Roßgass allowed us to gain a few more vertical meters before we reached the highest point of our hike – just under 1,000 meters in the hamlet of Buggenegg – already in the municipality of Bildstein. Despite the slight backlight, we had a mountain view stretching as far as the rear of the Bregenz Forest and the Hoher Freschen.

Then it went for a while on a small plateau in the direction of Bildstein Dorf. Another short hiking break was to visit the pilgrimage basilica. The last section led on a zigzag path to the Eulentobel and directly to the village center of Schwarzach. A stop and the return trip to Dornbirn marked the end of this impressive day.
