What kind of game is One Piece Odyssey?
One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based role-playing game. Exploration doesn’t take much place here since you are guided through the story through corridor-type environments. It is possible to move away from it a little, but not enough to greatly mark the spirits. The bulk of the gameplay therefore revolves around combat, largely inspired by that of Dragon Quest XI. Thanks to their rock-paper-scissors system (effective, weak or neutral types depending on the enemies), the zones allowing to distribute its various fighters, the special techniques to several characters and the feeling of permanent progression, they proved to be subtle and interesting when our preview.
What is the story of One Piece Odyssey?
One Piece Odyssey tells an original story. Bandai Namco and ILCA did not wish to adapt one of the many arcs of the manga (gathered through more than a hundred volumes today). For this untold story, the Straw Hat crew takes us to Wafford Island following a shipwreck. Now stranded, the Mugiwaras (Japanese name of Luffy’s crew) go to meet Adio and Lim. But the latter will make all the pirates forget their powers. They therefore have no choice: they will have to search the island to find their abilities before leaving. Small feature: some require you to dive back into your memories, allowing players to relive key moments from the manga, from Alabasta to Water Seven.
Is Eiichiro Oda involved in the development of the game?
We no longer present Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka behind One Piece. That the fans of the license are reassured, the guy is well involved in the development of One Piece Odyssey. He notably drew the characters (like Adio and Lim) and new creatures and supervised the writing of the scenario. At the start of 2022, he even hailed the “incredible immersion” permitted by One Piece Odyssey. Another small detail good to know for fans of the anime this time: the game retains the same voice actors as in the latter. What accentuate a little more the fan-service aspect, very present in game.
What is the release date of One Piece Odyssey?
There have been many postponements over the past year and One Piece Odyssey was no exception. Scheduled for 2022, its release was finally postponed to early 2023, and more precisely on January 13. As a reminder, the game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series. Note that a demo will be available for free from January 10 on consoles. What are the different editions for One Piece Odyssey?
For the standard edition of the game, you will need to spend €69.99 on consoles and €59.99 on PC. But it is also possible to afford the Deluxe version at €94.99 (€84.99 on PC). The latter of course includes the base game (digital version only), but also the DLC to come, the cosmetics included in the Deluxe Pack (an outfit for Usopp and two small jewels) and 100,000 Berrys.
And for the greediest, it is always possible to turn to the Collector’s Edition, available for €159.99 on Bandai Namco’s online store. It includes everything included in the Deluxe Edition, but also a steelbook, three postcards, a figurine of Luffy and Lim (230 x 210 x 210 mm), the collector’s box as well as Small jewels of objects and Small HP Conversion Jewels to use in-game.
