The live-action series of One Piece on Netflix does not satisfy fans, according to the first feedback from the privileged who attended the test screening. The live-action series One Piece, based on the manga created by Eiichiro Oda and expected on Netflix this year with a budget of 100 million dollars, has received very negative initial feedback. The private test screening of certain episodes has indeed revealed a catastrophic production: mediocre computer graphics, a tone that is not homogeneous and actors who are not very credible.

Fans are therefore worried about the quality of this adaptation, which is based on a perilous exercise already suffered by Netflix with Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist et Death Note, and which have not been successful. Will this One Piece live action series be a disappointment for fans of the original work?

Netflix: the first returns of the adaptation in live-action of One Piece are disastrous

It would seem that the production of the live-action series of One Piece does not live up to what fans expect. The Netflix streaming platform wanted to tackle a great Japanese manga classic, but the first feedback from the privileged who attended the test screening is not encouraging. According to the information relayed, the story lacks meaning for the uninitiatedwhich is a disappointment for the fans.

The tone of the series seems to be a major issue — indeed, the story goes from zany to serious, creating an inconsistency that will have bothered some fans. Moreover, the make-up and appearance of certain actors are not up to par, which makes the characters less believable.

The series also seems to have structural problems. The first half of the first episode is all flashbacks and features a young Luffy. A choice of narration that does not correspond to the original work.

CGI also seems to be a big problem. The synthetic images are – a priori – bad, which can give the impression that the characters are unreal. For a live-action series, this can be a real obstacle to viewer immersion.

Problems with CGI, makeup, character appearance, story structure, and series tone have us fearing the worst for the sequel. Fans of the original series may be disappointed, with some saying scandalized, by this live action adaptation. We just have to wait to see if the first feedback will influence the production of the series to improve certain aspects before the broadcast, planned (normally) September 23, 2023.
