As part of the new version 2.0, the low-code platform for corporate applications ToolJet has a completely new design, its own database and better support for programmers. The developers have completely redesigned the interface – especially the Application Builder, in which users design their programs. Its previous structure has simply become too confusing due to the many new functions since the last major release.

In the new version 2.0, the ToolJet low-code platform has a completely revised interface for creating business applications.

Furthermore, ToolJet now has its own PostgreSQL-based database. This is a no-code tool for end users who can create the database via a graphical interface and maintain the tables it contains. More details on this as well as documentation can be found in the announcement of the new version.

Until now, programmers could only extend applications created in ToolJet with JavaScript. Now the project has added Python as a supported language to be able to build functionality beyond the low-code possibilities. In addition, UI components written in React can now be imported.

If several users are accessing an application, multiplayer editing can be activated in the future: users can work in parallel, their changes no longer overwrite those of their colleagues. A chat is also on board so that the upcoming tasks can be coordinated directly via it. If complete separation is desired, administrators can set up separate workspaces for an installation. In addition, individual workspaces can be configured using their own variables.

All other innovations can be found in the announcement, on GitHub the developers also list the bug fixes. ToolJet’s basic package is available as free software under the AGPLv3 open source license. However, this release lacks several features and developer support. Companies can operate ToolJet themselves or book it directly from the cloud. A similar model with a limited free version is being pursued by Budibase, which also recently released a major update.
