Optimism in Hacienda West but there are those who will not rest until they have light

Residents of the Hacienda West neighborhood, in Cameron County, are optimistic but there are those who will not rest until they see the trucks of AEP Texas and the employees working in the community, this after the company announced that in a matter of weeks it is preparing to begin the infrastructure construction process that will allow them to finally have electricity service.

“After a period of months waiting for proper documentation to be finalized, AEP Texas can now begin the process of building electric utility infrastructure in the Hacienda West subdivision in Brownsville,” the company said. This occurs after residents of the place urged the authorities to visit the neighborhood to see the harsh situation they are suffering from not having electricity service.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, depending on the availability of materials such as transformers, and the project does not have a deadline for completion.

“Thank God that they fully heard our call and that this call that we are making is fulfilled, which is already fair and necessary,” said Aidé Pérez, a resident of Hacienda West, before the announcement by the AEP Texas company that they will begin to build the infrastructure. “I think it is already a good response because we are closer to the possibility of having the service…”, said Emilio Huerta, another resident of Hacienda West. “Thank God that they have already heard our prayers,” added the man.

So far there are 20 families affected by the absence of electrical service. In some cases, not having electricity has meant for residents seeing their health affected by conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration, residents explained in a previous interview.

Regardless of AEP Texas’ announcement that work will begin in weeks, there are residents who do not let their guard down. “We are not thinking of taking our finger off the line until we see ourselves (the) AEP Texas trucks working here on (the) construction of electricity because this has even affected our economy,” denounces Juan Espinoza, another resident of Hacienda West .
