The US Park Police horses have a new home on the National Mall, and the public is welcome to visit.

The new center is called the US Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center. It is an educational center and a stable that opened on Wednesday with the mission of serving the police horse patrol and connecting with visitors.

The facility includes 14 stables and space for the horses to exercise.

“You can learn about our unit, our agency, and what it takes to be a rider, an officer – and what it takes for a horse to be part of our unit,” said Lt. Anna Rose, mounted patrol leader.

Students from Payne Elementary School in DC visited on Wednesday.

“I like horses because sometimes when they gallop, they are majestic,” said a fourth grade boy.

The stables and educational center are located in the wooded area south of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The facility is open to the public Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It was funded through private donations to the trust for the National Esplanade.
