On March 13th it will be that time again: The Oscars will be awarded in Los Angeles for the 95th time. The Academy Award (officially the “Academy Award of Merit”) is one of the best-known and most important prizes in the film industry. Oscar nominations 2013: Wuppertaler and Düsseldorfer nominated for film awards
With Frank Petzold (Wuppertal) and Volker Bertelmann (Düsseldorf), two creative people from North Rhine-Westphalia are also hoping for the award.
Petzold has already won a European Film Award for his visual effects on the film “Nothing New in the West”. He didn’t really expect the Oscar nomination, he told WDR. Even the nomination is a win. In view of the strong competition in the category – among other things, the second part of Avatar is nominated here – he remains realistic.

The Düsseldorfer Volker Bertelmann hopes in the category for the best film music. He was already nominated for an Oscar in 2017, but went away empty-handed at the time.
All in all, director Edward Berger’s anti-war drama “Nothing New in the West” hopes to win the industry’s top film award in nine categories. Among other things, it was nominated in the categories of best film and best international film. It is the first time that a German film has been nominated for the Best Film category. In this category, however, “Nothing New in the West” has to compete with absolute top-class artists in the industry: Elvis, the second part of Avatar or Top Gun: Maverick are also nominated in this category.

Oscars 2022: Will Smith gives a slap in the face
The 2022 Academy Awards may well have a bigger place in the history books. Actor Will Smith not only received the leading actor award for “King Richard”, but also the most headlines.
