Admittedly, it’s been a few weeks since it was published. But probably not everyone has noticed it, maybe one or the other doesn’t know the app at all? This is about that Release of version 4.3 from OsmAnd for Android. “OsmAnd” stands for OpenStreetMap Automated Navigation Directions and is an app for Android and iOS designed for mobile navigation. OsmAnd uses the map data of the OpenStreetMap project (OSM) and probably the most notable feature is the fact that the project is open source and focuses on offline navigation. It should be noted that there is also a paid Pro version of the app. A few of the innovations are only available as a demo in the free version and are actually considered paid features.
The rendering of the maps now works via OpenGL, which should provide a noticeable boost in performance. As a free demo, the weather widget has been integrated as a plugin that can show you information about temperature, air pressure, wind, clouds and precipitation, among other things. The following new features await you in version 4.3 according to the changelog:
