Jan Köppen is the new “Jungle Camp” moderator on Sonja Zietlow’s side. But Dr. Bob caught the 39-year-old off guard with his statements about spiders and snakes.
The jungle camp begins: From Friday, January 13, 2023, RTL will say “I’m a star – get me out of here!”. As always, all 17 dates will be moderated by Sonja Zietlow (54) – but recently also by Jan Köppen (39) instead of Daniel Hartwich (44). The candidates and moderators are already in Australia and are confronted with the local nature. Now the 39-year-old spoke about his first experiences in the jungle and the fear of spiders and snakes.
In an Instagram story on the jungle camp account, Jan Köppen already posted: “I’m already very much in jungle fever.” He also explains why that is: “Slowly I have the feeling that I belong more to it”. The moderator seems to be in a positive mood and says full of friends about the show: “Feels good and I’m curious how the first show will be.”
In an interview with RTL before the start, colleague Sonja Zietlow had some tips for the new moderator by her side: “A daylight alarm clock would be good so that you can get out of the box better, because I don’t want you to be overslept. Earplugs, an airplane sleep mask, and melatonin to help you fall asleep, too. The good thing is that you don’t drink alcohol. Otherwise I recommend mosquito stuff, there’s one called “Mozzie fuck off”. That describes the Australians well because they really have a name for their mosquito spray.”

But not only does the moderator have something to say about animals in the jungle to “the new guy”, but also the jungle camp doctor Dr. Bob (72). He reveals so much to RTL: “I’m sure that Jan will do a fantastic job and I’m really looking forward to the coming weeks with Sonja and him.” But it doesn’t stop with the encouraging words – instead, the 72- year-old joked with Jan Köppen: “And of course I scared him a bit at first. Now he’s expecting snakes and spiders everywhere.” That was fine, because the new moderator then said: “I put my pant legs in my socks so that no critters can crawl in there.”
