The famous Billboard magazine has launched the ranking of the 50 best Latin pop songs between 2000 and 2023.
Among the long list of artists that we find in the publication of the magazine We can find the Cuban representation by some of the most popular and important singers from the island such as the duo Gente de Zona, Yotuel Romero, Descemer Bueno or the incomparable Celia Cruz.
Occupying number 15 of the ranking the song is found “Patria y Vida” released in 2022 and performed by Yotuel, Gente de Zona, Descemer Bueno, Maykel Osorbo and El Funky. Since its release on digital media, “Patria y Vida” became an anthem of freedom for Cubans. In addition, it has won several international recognitions such as the Best Urban Song and Best Song of the Year awards at the 2021 Latin Grammy Awards.
Following on the list at number 11 is the theme of Celia Cruz and Mikey Perfecto, “La Negra Hace Tumbao”one of the greatest hits that the famous Cuban performed and which was presented in 2001 when the Queen of Salsa was 76 years old.
And at the top, specifically in second place on the list, we find “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias, Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona. The single was released in 2013 and became an international musical revolution, occupying the top positions on all the charts for many years. Not to mention that the video clip for the song is one of the most viewed in the history of YouTube, accumulating to date no more and no less than 3.4 billion views on the platform.
One of the first reactions of the aforementioned Cuban artists that we have been able to see on social networks has been that of Descemer Bueno. The singer-songwriter was very proud of his followers for being part of the Billboard list and especially for “Bailando.”
“Very happy because in Billboard magazine my song Bailando is ranked as the second best song since 2000,” the artist wrote on his Instagram account.
Gente de Zona, for its part, shared a story on its Instagram account echoing the news.
