• Consumer advice center warns scam
  • phishing email: PayPal account allegedly blocked
  • This is how you react correctly

Danger for PayPal customers: the Consumer Center currently warns of so-called phishing mails. Many users are currently receiving emails with the subject “Your account has been restricted due to suspicious activity”. However, this is a scam.

Beware of fraud: PayPal account allegedly blocked

“We have reviewed your account for suspicious activity,” the phishing email said. Allegedly one “registered on an unknown device” and tried several times to delete the e-mail address. For these reasons, the PayPal account is “temporarily blocked”.

The account must therefore be repaired immediately, which is why confirmation of one’s own identity is required. To do this, you need to click on an added link. If this process is not carried out, the account will remain “permanently restricted”, the scammers threaten. Anyone receiving such an email should remain calm and distance themselves from the threat don’t let it put you under pressure. It makes sense not to reply to the e-mail and to move it to the spam folder.

A phishing email is often recognizable as such based on several indicators. “The impersonal salutation, the incorrect sender address and the numerous grammatical errors expose this e-mail as a clear attempt at fraud,” explains the consumer advice center in the current case. In addition, such emails often threaten a permanent account blocking and request personal data.
