The Liot deputies will present their text on June 8th. They are reluctant to propose the complete repeal of the bill or to focus only on raising the legal retirement age.

Although promulgated 4 days ago, the pension reform still arouses disputes. Motion of censure, second request for a referendum of shared initiative (RIP), mobilization of May 1: the initiatives to counter the effective implementation of the law are numerous.

The latest is announced by Betrand Pancher, boss of the Independent Liberties, Overseas and Territories (Liot) group, in the columns of the Parisian:

“Our group is going to table a bill to repeal the pension reform,” said the parliamentarian from Meuse.

Repeal the law as a whole or only the postponement of the legal age

The text will be presented on June 8, the date on which the Liot deputies organize their parliamentary niche, a day during which they have their hands on the agenda of the National Assembly. The exact content of this bill has not yet been decided.

Two options are on the table, depending The Parisian. The first would aim to repeal the law as a whole, the second would focus only on the most contested measure: that fixing the postponement of the legal retirement age at 64, instead of 62. This question will be decided by April 20, the date on which the Liot group will have to file the texts of its parliamentary niche.

The Socialists have also proposed a text to repeal the reform, but their opportunity to dictate the agenda of the National Assembly has already passed. As for the Communists, who are organizing the next opposition niche on May 4, they submitted their texts before the Constitutional Council validated the bulk of the government’s bill last Friday.

This is not the first time that the Liot deputies are maneuvering on pension reform. The group of 20 elected officials, whose composition is heterogeneous, had presented a motion of censure on March 20, after the triggering of 49.3 on the pension reform.

A favorable Senate vote seems impossible

The fate of the government and that of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne was then decided by 9 votes. The vote for this provision, adopted only once in the history of the Fifth Republic, had never been so close since 1992. to the government.

Unlike a bill, for which a simple majority is sufficient. Therefore, the text would have more chances of succeeding than the motion of censure. Without this being sufficient, the Senate then having to give the green light. An eventuality that seems impossible, as the right-wing majority of the Luxembourg Palace is in favor of pension reform and the postponement of the legal retirement age.

The initiative would nevertheless have the merit of keeping the subject on the agenda, while the presidential camp seeks to project itself on other themes to get out of a sequence which has largely weakened it.
